Nutrition is a social activity; this process divides and unites social groups, determines social norms and reproduces the social structure. In the process of this activity, the restaurant can be treated as a social space in the field of nutrition. It is not only an economic enterprise but a social phenomenon that relies on the mechanisms of social institutions. In the process of globalization, there are two binary-opposition tendencies in the development of nutrition: “Europe and Asia”, “westernization” and “easternization”. The spread of Chinese restaurants around the world has acquired a significant role in the process of “easternization” of food. This article aims to determine the social and economic functioning mechanisms of Chinese restaurants in St. Petersburg in the process of “easternization” of food.
