SEASONAL MIGRANT LABOR AND REPRODUCTION OF THE SOCIAL AND CULTURAL PRACTICES IN THE RUSSIAN REGION: THE CASE OF THE REPUBLIC OF BASHKORTOSTAN

The aim of this article is to examine the role of seasonal migrant labor (“vakhtovy trud”) in the production of social and cultural practice over the formation of the course of one’s working life and lifestyle. We also examine the main reasons and motivations that draw local residents into labor mobility in the Belokataysky District of the Republic of Bashkortostan. We consider the place of seasonal migrant labor practices among the other forms of mobile employment, such as migrant farm work (“otkhodnichestvo”), “kalym” and “shabashnichestvo”. Refs 7. Tables 2.
