Russian traditional cottage in the process of social transformation from the rural dwelling to summer house

Russian villages are in the process of social transformation. One of its the facets is the transformation of traditional rural cottages from the place for the permanent living to summer houses. This process has both physical and cultural facets. The traditional house and many its elements change their meanings and functions in the context of new social practices. Traditional wooden cottages preserve their old appearance as the illusion of the living old tradition. The house is not only the subject of consumption but also an actant shaping life style of its owns. Refs. 13. Fig. 9.
